Get started with the Xsite 3D Desktop Simulator

The Xsite 3D Desktop Simulator is designed primarily for training. With an internet connection, you can explore the next-generation Xsite 3D software and practise its main features on your computer without machine hardware.


Current limitations

  • Only the excavator machine type is available.
  • The Machine and buckets and Positioning settings menus are unavailable.
  • Your settings are not saved between simulator sessions.
  • The simulator is currently available only in Europe. Support for additional regions may be introduced in future releases.

Prepare the simulator

Before using the simulator, check that your Xsite Manage account has a home organization assigned.

  1. Sign in to Xsite Manage and select the organization you primarily belong to from the Workspaces menu.
  2. Under Organization, open Users and click your email address.



  3. Check the Home Organization field. If it says “No home organization is currently assigned,” contact Xsite Manage support or your local dealer to have one assigned.



  4. Once you’ve confirmed that a home organization is assigned to your account, open Organization > Downloads in Xsite Manage and download the latest Xsite 3D Desktop Simulator installation package.



  5. Extract the downloaded ZIP file on your computer.

 

Start the simulator

  1. Open the extracted folder and double-click Xsite 3D excavator desktop.exe.



  2. If the Xsite Manage sign-in page opens in your browser, sign in with your Xsite Manage account.



  3. Wait for the simulator to start and connect to Xsite Manage. This may take a few minutes at the beginning of a new session.

  4. The simulator connects to Xsite Manage automatically. You can check the connection status under System > Xsite® MANAGE in the simulator.



    When the simulator successfully connects to Xsite Manage, it automatically appears as a machine control system in your home organization’s Machines list. This requires a home organization to be assigned to your account.
 

Open a Site from Xsite Manage

  1. In Xsite Manage, open the Site and go to Machines > Add machines. Select your home organization from the Organization dropdown and choose the simulator, or add it using its DBSN. Once added, the Site appears in the simulator’s project list.

    The simulator has a Starter cloud license by default, so it can only be added to Sites owned by its home organization.



  2. Select the Site and wait for its data to download.

 

Import files from your computer

  1. Open the Media folder in the extracted desktop simulator folder and add your design data there.

  2. In the simulator, create a local project, then import your files as you would from a USB drive. Files added to the Media folder will be available for import.

If the simulator is not working as expected, try restarting it by following these steps.

  1. In the simulator, go to System > Software and select Close backend. Then close the simulator window using the X in the top-right corner.



  2. Run Xsite 3D excavator desktop.exe from the extracted folder to start the simulator again.
