Codelist Editor | Xsite® Manage Help Center

The Codelist Editor enables organizations to create and maintain codelists for surveying. Codelists ensure that surveyed features are classified consistently throughout a site's lifecycle.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have Organization Admin or External Operator User permissions.
Codelists can be imported from CSV or JFCL files.

Open Codelists

Codelists can be managed in Xsite Manage, and any changes are synchronized with Xsite machine control systems and surveying equipment. This allows users to tailor codelists to the needs of each site project.

Users can also define which codes are available for surveying.

The Codelists view displays all codelists available in your organization. From this view, you can:

Search existing codelists.
Create a new codelist.
Download a codelist.
Delete a codelist.
Open a codelist for editing.

Create a new codelist

To create a new codelist.

Click New.
Enter a unique name for the codelist.
Click Create.

The new codelist is added to the organization and can now be opened in the editor.

Add content to a codelist

A newly created codelist is initially empty. You can add content from a region codelist, an organization codelist, or by creating individual codes.

To add codes from an existing codelist:

Open the Select codelist menu.
Select a region or organization codelist.
Click Add.

You can also add individual codes by clicking New code.

Upload a codelist

If you already have a codelist file.

Click Upload.
Select a supported CSV or JFCL file.
Wait for the upload to complete.

The uploaded codelist is loaded into the editor and is ready for editing. Changes are not applied until they are saved. Click Save to update the codelist.

Edit a codelist

After importing or adding a codelist, it opens in the Codelist Editor. The editor is divided into Category and Feature sections.

A feature represents an individual type of surveyed object. A feature code defines what a measured point, line, or other object represents. For example, a feature can represent an asphalt edge, a centerline, or a light pole. In the Finnish coding example below, numerical codes such as 122 identify specific types of surveyed features.

A category provides a broader level of classification. It can be used to group multiple feature codes based on the surface, structure, or other larger entity they belong to. For example, 171100 Rock excavation (bottom surface) can be defined as a category containing multiple feature codes associated with that surface.

In short, a feature defines what an individual surveyed object is, while a category defines the broader group or surface it belongs to.

Both sections provide similar editing functionality. Feature codes also include a Type attribute, which defines whether the feature is represented as a Point, Line, or Area.
